The prepaid credit card for Canadians is sometimes referred to as a secured card.
There are four benefits of prepaid credit cards

Guaranteed Approval credit card There are many people who are visiting this site who have bad credit, starting off new with a new credit rating and are very eager to have a guaranteed approval CC. This ensures that they receive a credit card and start their credit rating with Equifax and TransUnion. Rebuild your credit score If somebody has bad credit, they want to be sure that they can rebuild their credit score with certainty. I read a post on another site today where a fellow who had immigrated to Canada 5 years ago indicated that he was doing well financially but had no credit cards and thus no credit rating. This gentleman expressed that this was very inconvenient for himself and his family. This is limiting as without a credit score, he won’t have a chance of applying for a mortgage or car loan in the near future. Convenience of using a credit card Millions of Canadians take for granted the use of a credit card for day to day purchasing activities. Things like renting a car, or hotel room usually require the use of a credit card. Without a credit card, it makes travelling more difficult. This prepaid CC gives it users the flexibility that other people have on a daily basis. A few other points of convenience are that you can make payments online and you don’t have to carry around large amounts of cash with you. Security deposit as little as $75.00 A security deposit means that you’re guaranteeing that the credit card will be paid off. This is the part where the credit card is “prepaid”. A small security deposit of $75 makes it alot more convenient for the majority of Canadians to obtain one.

It’s important to explain here that the above is a description of secured credit cards in Canada. While these types of CCs are relatively new in Canada, the terminology “secured credit cards” may get confused and interchanged with “prepaid credit cards”.

Prepaid credit cards have been around for over ten years now, although they are just now coming into the spotlight. Prepaid credit cards are basically credit cards backed by major credit card companies that offer you the ability to deposit money onto the card and then use it for purchases. You are not allowed to spend anything more than you have deposited in most cases. It is a great way to teach students good financial responsibility. There are a lot of advantages to prepaid credit cards, and only a few disadvantages. However, before committing to any prepaid credit cards, you should be clear on the company’s rules and fees.

No Credit Checks

One great thing about prepaid credit cards is that there is usually no credit check required. This makes prepaid credit cards ideal for those with lousy credit scores or even those without any previous credit to build their credit. If you have bad credit, this is a nice way to slowly rebuild your credit score. Creditors will see the card on your report and see if you use it responsibly and often.

No APR

Many prepaid credit cards offer no APR on money deposited and your purchases. Some do charge high interest rates on your balances however, so beware. There is no reason you should pay a monthly interest rate on money you have deposited or on purchases. Therefore, you should certainly look for cards that offer no APR.

Fees

Just like the bank, some prepaid credit cards charge fees on your transactions. Some prepaid credit cards will charge you ATM fees or cash withdrawal fees. These are the most common fees with prepaid credit cards. Some cards however may try to charge you a monthly usage fee. Try to get a
prepaid credit card that does not charge this monthly fee. They exist out there, so just search. You will save yourself a lot in the long run by avoiding a monthly fee on your prepaid credit cards.

Direct Deposit

Prepaid credit cards often have the ability to allow you to directly deposit your check onto your card. This eliminates the need to go to the bank each week. This is the perfect option for the cardholder that uses their prepaid credit card for everything. Take advantage of these convenient options, as they can save you time. The truth is, prepaid credit cards are responsible ways to spend money. They give you the option
of using your money anywhere credit cards are taken without leaving you with a high monthly bill.

Prepaid credit cards can also offer reward programs and other incentives similar to regular cards. They are convenient and low risk. As with any credit card, make sure your prepaid credit cards have terms which with you agree. It is better to read everything before rather than later.

Our faith in the credit industry is slowly fading. Banks are going bankrupt, investors are coveting millions of dollars and the stock market has collected many families entire savings. We have been forced to turn to other options. Whether it’s solely for our loss of faith in the credit companies or our suffering credit scores as a result of this economic tragedy, many of us have turned to resources like a prepaid visa credit card.

Over the last decade or so the society has become engulfed in the concept of owning things they cannot afford now, but will pay a credit company interest plus the principal balance so they can get what they want right away. This has put families in debt, interest rates have sky rocketed, credit scores are the lowest they have ever been. This is why we are turning to solutions like the prepaid visa credit card. We are able to have the benefits of a secured, safe plastic transaction without the interest, without owing the company and without having to make timely payments. If you can’t afford it now, you can’t have it now. You must pay for your own line of credit prior to using.

A Prepaid Visa Credit Card is actually not a credit card at all. There are no lines of credit. You will not owe Visa in the end. You will have to pay a few small maintenance costs, but in reality it is your personal debit card and Visa is like your secured bank. It is an alternative checking account without the fees.

A prepaid debit card is different from a typical debit card, in that you’ve already paid for the purchases you will make before you make them. This can be very beneficial for many people, especially those with bad credit. Below, we’ll explore how to get a prepaid debit card and which kind is best for your unique needs.

For Building Credit

There are special accounts available for individuals with bad credit who wish to build their credit. These accounts provide you with a debit card that you can use just like a traditional card – to shop online, make purchases at your favorite stores, and more. You place money into the account that is to be used for debit purchases, and you’re able to utilize the card in the same way as a typical card. In addition, some of these accounts allow you to take out mini loans, kind of like a payday loan. The payment history is then reported to the three major credit bureaus so that you can build credit.

Prepaid Credit Cards

Another option is to purchase a prepaid credit card. These are available through companies like MasterCard and Visa. You purchase a card for an initial fee, and then you ‘load’ the card with as much money as you’d like. You can then use your card to make online purchases or in any other way that you’d use a typical credit card. The downside of a prepaid credit card is the initial fee you have to spend to purchase one, and these credit cards are not good for building credit.

2nd Chance Bank Accounts

Individuals can also gain debit cards through 2nd chance bank accounts. These are usually designed for individuals who have bad credit, or a bad history with other banks. The debit card you’re given is to be used to withdraw money from the account. However, some of these accounts allow you to use the card as a credit card. Checking with your preferred financial institution is important if you decide to go this route, so you can determine their rules and limitations.

A prepaid debit card is a very beneficial thing to have, for everyday use and for emergencies, especially those that help build credit. Think about why you need the card and this should help you determine which method would be best for your unique situation and needs.

Often, students do not have credit records. This makes it difficult for them to obtain credit cards. In addition, if they are able to obtain, the credit limit is low or interest rates charged are high. At such times, prepaid student credit card is the best option, as it provides flexibility of a credit card and avoids accumulating debts at the same time.

No credit checks or monthly installments are required to obtain such type of credit card. The amount transferred to a prepaid credit card determines the spending limit. You can obtain such a credit card online or from a financial institution.

Uses and Benefits:

You can use this credit card wherever normal credit cards are accepted. If credit balance on the card is low, students can refill them at any time. Methods to refill these cards are through cash or check. Some card issuers also accept automatic account loading on a monthly basis.

With normal credit cards, you are not aware of the amount available on the card. Sometimes, dealers may take a small amount first and charge the full amount later. As a result, an overlimit fee is charged, which results in negative balance.

Hence, students need to monitor their credit balance and transactions on their credit cards, as they have to pay the negative balance. This also helps them to beware about financial stability and budgeting at a young age.

Benefits:

Some prepaid student credit cards allow students to build their credit history. You can apply for such a prepaid credit card, if you have a social security number. Social security number plays an important role in applying for this type of credit card. As a result, they are reported to credit bureau agencies. You need to maintain a positive credit history by keeping the card active and avoiding negative balances. Good credit records help students to get credit cards with lower rate of interest and in getting finances such as loans and mortgages.

Prepaid student cards provide students the flexibility of using credit cards without worrying about card debts. Students learn to maintain economic constancy and develop positive credit history with the help of these cards.

These credit cards function in the same manner as normal credit cards do. You can buy goods and services from different locations with these cards. They look and act as a normal card and are very similar to debit cards. You have to put some money in a pre-determined bank account to make use of these cards. If you fail to put money on the card, you will not be able to use the card.

Other Points To Remember:

Minors, who are unable to obtain cards, can get these types of credit cards. Usually, teenagers use prepaid student credit cards the most to build credit history, while studying.

Some disadvantages of these cards are:

1.	There is a monthly convenience fee.
2.	You have to pay an interest fee.
3.	You do not get a credit.
5.	They make it difficult to shop with a low interest rate.

In the UK consumers can enjoy a very good choice of credit cards, and these days the choice is better than ever, with something to suit everyone. In addition to standard credit cards, where you can enjoy a certain, specified amount of credit and spread repayments, you can now also opt for prepaid credit cards, which may prove useful for certain consumers. Although prepaid credit cards are not yet available from every card issuer, they are becoming increasingly popular in the UK.

Standard cards

With standard credit cards you can use your card to make purchases and cash transactions, and then you can repay what you owe. on the card over a period of time or altogether at the end of the month. If you clear the balance each month you won’t pay any interest, otherwise you will be charged interest on the remaining balance (unless you have an interest free credit card and clear the balance before the interest free period expires).

Pros:

Convenience and flexibility Being able to enjoy a specified credit limit Being able to spread the cost of purchases Enjoying rewards or interest free credit based on type of credit card Being able to avoid interest charged by clearing the balance each month
Cons:

Extortionate interest rate charges on uncleared balances on some cards Possibility of high charges for late repayments or for going over limit Potential to get into high levels of debt Risk of credit card fraud
Prepaid credit cards

With prepaid cards you can enjoy the convenience and ease of making purchases on a card, but you will not actually receive credit. Instead, you have to load the card with cash like a prepaid mobile phone. You can then use the card to make purchases up to the amount that is loaded on to it. This is a very effective way for those with poor credit and who are unable to get a regular credit card or a debit card facility to enjoy the ease and convenience of shopping by card rather than cash and cheque.

Pros:

Convenience and ease of shopping by card No risk of getting into debt No costly charges or interest fees Easy and convenient to load card with money Suitable for those with bad credit
Cons:

Having to have the cash upfront in order to make a purchase No additional benefits and rewards like many credit cards Cannot spread the cost of purchases

Normally, when making an application for the usual kind of credit card, you undergo a credit search which will determine your credit limit. Once this transaction is validated by the credit card issuer, you will be able to use your credit card to make your purchases. And as is the custom, you will receive a credit card statement at the end of each month. If you pay off your outstanding balance every month, you will not be charged any interest. But if you fail to pay off the balance, then you’ll be obliged to pay interest on that very balance that has been carried forward to the following month.

But this is not the case with a prepaid Master Card which you load up with money when making an application. The beauty of having a prepaid Master Card is that a credit search is simply waived aside because your prepaid Master Card is already loaded with money. Not only this, but you don’t have to worry about clearing your outstanding balance and you won’t even receive a credit card statement at the end of each month.

Your prepaid Master Card, unlike the humble credit card, will be your magic wand that guarantees acceptance and opens doors at all participating outlets throughout the world. And as its name suggests, the Master Card will make you the master of your spending habits, knowing full well that you cannot go over the prepaid limit unless you top it up with more money.

As it is with a credit card, your prepaid Master Card dispenses with the idea of carrying large amounts of cash on you. And in the event of a theft, you can be rest assured that you are well protected because of your PIN number which no one should have access to.

If you are sold on the idea of acquiring a prepaid Master Card, here’s how you can procure one. You will have to pay an application fee to obtain a prepaid Master Card. Some prepaid Master Cards issuers may charge a monthly fee while some others may charge an annual fee. Each time you use your Master Card on your transactions, you will be levied a handling fee. Your prepaid Master Card can be topped up either online or through your bank. If you don’t have a bank account, then you can always top it up with ready cash, at Post Offices, shops and garages, throughout the UK.

Consumers today are up to their eyeballs in debt. And many people don’t realize it until their good credit has been devastated.

As a result, many credit repair agencies are popping up all over the internet, on television and in the newspapers making sweeping guarantees that they can erase your bad credit and remove bankruptcies, judgments, liens, and bad loans from your credit history – forever!

Consumers are flocking to these credit repair clinics in droves. However, estimates show that credit repair companies have defrauded consumers in the United States alone out of more than fifty million dollars.

The truth of the matter is that depending on the extent of the damage to your credit history, the best strategy could be a self help strategy – not giving away hundreds or even thousands of dollars in up-front fees to an agency that in the end may do nothing to restore or improve your credit.

After researching the topic quite extensively, I found one great method that works well for some people is a method I call “beating the credit reporting bureaus at their own game”.

I report about it in more detail on my Prepaid Debit Card Site (www.debit-card-guide.com), however, in brief, this strategy involves taking advantage of signing up for prepaid debit cards which offer a built-in credit reporting feature.

A prepaid debit card is a great solution for a lot of people because the money you spend is your own and in most cases you cannot spend over the amount you have in your account.

This is a good solution for people who may have had difficulties with debt or bankruptcy in the past because a prepaid debit card is a great tool for developing invaluable financial management and budgeting skills.

A major bonus of some prepaid debit cards today is that during the sign-up process you are offered an opportunity to sign up for an additional service that will help you rebuild a bad credit history by having your monthly payments reported to one or more of the major credit reporting agencies.

Subsequently, each month your card’s issuer credit reporting partner will process your payment record and verify that your payment is properly posted to the credit bureaus’ records.

There is a small additional fee involved for this service each month, however, the fees are minimal by comparison to the sometimes outrageous fees and interest payment some credit card companies charge people with bad credit.

This fee is usually billed to you through your prepaid card each month and enables you to show a continuous history of activity within the credit system.

These prepaid debit cards help you rebuild your credit so you can get on with your life and is just one of the many self-help strategies that I recommend.

To learn more about rebuilding your credit through the use of a prepaid debit card simply do a search in one of your favorite search engines for prepaid debit cards or visit http://www.debit-card-guide.com for more specific card information.

Prepaid credit cards also called stored value card can be ideal for individuals who are unemployed, have bad credit or difficulty obtaining an unsecured credit card. Prepaid credit cards are also excellent for individuals who have a hard time controlling their spending and prevent the individual from overspending and getting into credit card debt. If your objective is to establish or rebuild you credit over a period of time, make sure the prepaid card issuer reports cardholder transactions to the credit bureaus namely Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union.

It is very easy to obtain a prepaid credit card because there is no credit check or employment verification since the funds you will be using are yours and not that of the prepaid credit card issuer. Prepaid credit card spending limit or credit line is the amount of money you loaded to your prepaid credit card account. Prepaid credit card carries the Visa or MasterCard logo. It can be used anywhere MasterCard and visa is accepted except renting a car at certain car rental companies and setting up automatic recurring payments.

The difference between a prepaid credit card and a debit card is that the spending transactions are deducted from the amount of money you loaded to your account unlike a debit card where the money spent is subtracted from your checking account and could cause Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) charges. The NSF charges are due to a customer drawing funds from an ATM or making purchases that exceeds the balance in their checking account. With a prepaid card this will never happen since the prepaid card holder is not borrowing any money and can only spend the amount of money loaded to their prepaid account.

With prepaid credit card there are no interest charges because you are using your own money. To obtain a prepaid credit card requires paying a setup or application fee and may charge a fee each time you load more money to your account. Some of the ways prepaid credit card can be funded is with a wire transfer and a cash deposit at certain locations approved by the issuer.
